6 years down… happy anniversary to my amazing wife.

I am not sure if most people who follow this blog know this, but I have been working on a website on the side for quite some time. It is called TallyHoh, and we are calling it a Social RSS Reader. That probably sounds pretty scary, but basically it is a way to read all your favorite websites in one place. Tyler, my partner, and I officially released it this week and so far the site hasn’t crashed so that is a positive.
In honor of the launch I created a T-Shirt at CafePress for Brendan that I think everyone would get a kick out of.
In case you can’t tell on the website, here is what the logo is:
So I finally got around to uploading the rest of the pictures that were on our camera, so be sure to go to the photo gallery and see all the new stuff.
A lot of neat stuff has been going on lately. Jeni is done with and enjoying every minute of it. At least for now, I am sure she will begin calling me 5 times a day as she runs out of stuff to do ;-). Also two days a week she has got to spend some time with our niece, Aeisha, to help her get ready for the 1st grade next year!
I finally got my promotion I have been hoping for. I am now a Senior Developer which makes me sound important. But all it means is I now have to be on call every other month, and I get to torment, I mean train, new people.
Brendan has been growing like crazy. He is gooing and gagaing but no consonants yet. We have two teeth finally poking through. Wow was that fun. He went from quite lovable Brendan to crying machine as soon as he got tired. It was amazing, but over all I think he dealt with his first two teeth quite well, and I am very proud of him.
Two days ago he had his 6 month checkup and the doctor says he looks healthy, and we should try feeding him more baby food. This is easier said than done, so far Brendan has had one good feeding where he was actually consuming the food instead of just making funny faces. Hopefully this will get better over time.
Also on a final note, I had my first Father Day and it was great, I got woke up at 8:30 a.m. two Brendan, Kye-Lynn and Jeni all presenting cards…two of which had them in there mouth ;-).
Enjoy the pictures.
Phase 1 of site restructure complete. I have setup the new ‘Daniel and Jeni Roop Family Blog’ up. I have titled it “Two Become…”. For those of you who saw the wedding site, might have noticed “Two become one…” was the “tag line” for or wedding site, and I felt it was appropriate to keep the theme but drop the one, since the blog’s intention is to go over everything the two of us do, not just our marriage.
That being said, I have a few more things I want to change before I start putting new content up.
1. Create a redirect from danielandjeni.com/baby so that anyone who has it bookmared will automatically be redirected here.
2. Update the Splash page at danielandjeni.com to point to Family Blog instead of Baby Blog, maybe I will leave baby blog, and point to the Brendan category, since that is what I will tag all the posts about Brendan as.
3. Move all family related posts from danielroop.com/blog to this blog.
4. Non related to this, but I plan on changing danielroop.com into a technical blog, about everything that I learn and do in my career. So if anyone was reading it for my political rants, they probably won’t show up there anymore.
So everyone just sit back, and be patient with me, I have some pictures of Brendan sporting his Gator apperal for the big win, as well as some more recent stuff.
So for those of you who don’t know I am an avid Smallville fan. And tonight was the season premire. Oh so good. I wouldnt say it is my favorite smallville episode, but it is a good one. I probably wouldn’t even put it up there with best season opener. Some cool elements were intorduced, which should make for alot of good story lines. For startes Jimmy Olsen was introduced at the daily planet, possibly a love interest for Chloe. The coolest element that was introduced was the phantom zone. This had appeared in previous episodes, but not to the extent in this episode.
All things considered I am excited about the direction that Smallville is going. I do realize that it is not following the comic, but at this point most childhood stories aren’t. I mean look at Transformers, there are atleast 3 maybe 4 different storylines, but that doesn’t make Transformers any less cool. I have no problem with writers taking and tweaking old favorites. Another perfect example of this is Batman Begins, or more specifically, The Dark Knight Retruns. The Dark Knight Returns was written years after the original, and tweaked the story line to be a little more dark. I personally like this version a lot more than the Television Version (BAAAMMMM).
That being said, I like Smallville, and I like where it is going.
My Birthday
So I am getting old. For those of you who read this and don’t know. My birthday was last wednesday April 26. I am now 23 years old, and feeling great. For my birthday I got…. um… A beautiful wife and a poopy puppy ;-). Actually I have yet to visit my parents so I haven’t received any gifts, but I did get a couple cards. One from my Uncle Kevin (…sorry Kevin) and my Grandparents thanks to both of ya.
Today Jeni’s parents came to visit us and our new home and they took us to eat at the Cheescake Factory. It was good and if you are a fan of chocolate cake, you need to get the Linda’s triple fudge cake. It is quite possibly a piece of heaven that the angels dropped for our pleasure. It is absolutely amazing.
Anyways the real reason why I am posting this is not to let everyone know it is my birthday but because I saw my page rank drop on google, so I felt I should post something so it looks like I update my content.
P.S. for those who care I have started working on an Content Project. Right now it just compiles a list of my favorite rss feeds, but the idea is much broader, we will see if I get to actually finish this project. I can it SocialDraft, we will see where it goes.

It took me awhile to post this but I have put up a new front page to danielandjeni.com. From here you can get to the old wedding site, directly to the gallery, or to my blog. Isn’t that excitnig.
Now I am working on the photo gallery which I am writting in .Net using Monorail. I am currently hashing out the object model, but it is coming along nicely. I don’t think it will be anything compared to but it will be my own.
I have also continued draftnig my first article in the Vidcast series. I think in a couple more days it will finally be ready to be posted.
Life
I took the plunge I signed up for netflix. For those of you who don’t know what netflix is, it is a “the world’s largest online DVD movie rental service” as quoted from the About Us section. Basically it is BlockBuster’s down fall. I signed up for the three at a time plan for less than 20 bucks a month. My first three movies…..SKY HI, RAY, and FANTASTIC 4. So we will see how I like the service and get back to you. I figured this would be cheaper than constantly buying movies. It is a big switch for me, as I have not rented in quite some time.
Money Money Money Moooney
So that wasn”t too bad. I have AdSense approved and added. My only complaint was the fact that to place it where I wanted on the page I had to add a customer handler….get_ads(). I will probably change how this works, since it really should be get_horizontal_ads(), and I shoul also have a get_vertical_ads(), so if I change the layout I don”t have to change the code that much. Anyways that is probably boring.
Coming soon…Next on my things to do is two fold. I am researching a development environment to build a teacher management application for Jeni(my wife). I am probably going to go with something in php, because that is what my host supports. However if I can figure out how to get MonoRail to work on my host, I will probably use that; as I am fond of that particular .NET clone (or should I say Nclone) of RubyOnRails.
Project Two is documenting my efforts into the world of vidcasting. Hopefully I will have helpful information for other people just starting or interested in getting started. At this point my undisclosed co-host and I have done some test recordings to see what we are like on camera, and we have started putting together a hardware inventory. I will attempt to break them up into helpful chunks.
And that is that…
