First Post

Hello everyone. Welcome to my latest project. The Baby Journal. Jeni and I have decided in order to attempt to keep everyone up to date on the progress of the pregnancy and the baby we are going to keep a blog. Hopefully we will be good about posting information. We plan on posting pictures here and on flickr.com.

If you want to bookmark this page you can bookmark www.danielandjeni.com/baby/ That should always point here, eventually either sadieroop.com, brendanroop.com and/or baby.danielandjeni.com will all point here, but I am having some problems with my webserver right now.

Anyways Jeni and I have our first ultrasound tomorrow (I Think) so hopefully we will have some pictures and information to post soon.

The Little One

So for those who don’t know, Jeni and I are pregnant. I apologize if I was unable to get ahold of you to tell you this in directly, but it is official. Jeni is now 12 weeks pregnant, and sick as a dog. But I guess we are approaching that 3 month mark so hopefully things will get better.

I just wanted to post this so anyone who I haven’t told yet is aware. ( Like my sister Christie). Anyways within the next week (as long as I get my new powersupply hooked up) I will be settin gup a blog specifically for the baby. You will be able to get there through danielandjeni.com. We will put pictures, and all kinds of stuff on there about the baby, as well as journal are entry into parent hood.

I won’t say too much more because I want to have content for the site ;-). I will say I have bought two additional domains tough sadieroop.com and brendanroop.com So read into that what you wish.

Don’t Touch That

It seems that lately I have enjoyed posting about polictics instead of tech/family stuff. I guess sometimes I tend to get all wired up about a topic, and usually I have no outlet to express my frustration, but now with my blog I do. That being said my topic of annoyance is some comments made by the Dennis Hastert, speaker of the house. These points seem to have good intentions however I have a big problem with this quote

???Another bill, offered by Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-PA), would put filters in schools and libraries so that kids can be protected from websites and tools that predators use online. We???ve all heard stories of children on some of these social websites meeting up with dangerous predators. This legislation adds another layer of protection.

So why stop there, lets stop allowing children to go to parks because predators use this as a way to interact and take advantage of children. What ridiculous logic this is, anything can be used by a predator. I understand that these sites can be used by predators, and can trick them into potentionally meeting them or whatever these predators do, but seriously do you thinks the kids using the school computers and the library computers are the ones getting caught up in this. Think about the last time you were in the library. Who was using the computer for personal use, now think to yourself, do those people look like the target demographic for predators. No because they are street smart. The people who hang out at the library and use the computer for entertainment would be too much work for a predator. The predators are going after children who are at home on there computer in a place where they can meet alone.

I can be way off her, but I think this is just a fluff bill to make it seem like republicans, no politicians are doing something about the family. Well in my humble opinion. Get your nose out of my family’s affairs. It is MY responsiblity to raise MY children the way I see fit. I will obey the established laws but seriously, lets take some responsiblity as human beings for our actions. If children are going places they shouldn’t, talking to people they shouldn’t, saying and doing things they shouldn’t it is THE PARENTS FAULT. Stop trying to place the blame on other things. When has it ever helped to just simply remove the object of the crime. The criminal will find another way to commit a crime. If you take away MySpace they start downloading music. If you block that they will start drawing dirty images in paint, or writing swear words in big bold font in word. Kids will find ways to be destructive taking away one way of commiting a crime solves NOTHING. Children must be talked to, punished, rewarded paided attention to.

I feel that I always leave these posts half way through but it is because I realize I have complained too much already, and no one really cares what I think for the most part. So I stop whenever I feel I have vented sufficient steam. And that point is now. Bottom line parents start taking responsiblity for your children. You are raising them, not babysitting them. Believe it or not you play some role in they childhood.

George Will is my Hero

I don’t know if I really agree with that statement, but I atleast admire his ability to say what he thinks. I don’t know if anyone else out there in internet land enjoys watching This Week as much as I do, but I very much enjoy the format of the show as well as George Snufolupogas’ ability to direct the conversations and produce quality discussion.

This week they were talking about gas. Here is my two cents on the topic. I have heard a few different arguments and the proponents of the higher price claim it is supply and demand. Here is my answer to that. Gas is not an optional item in our country. Gas is much like electricity and water. And since the gas companies are not moderating themselves by competition I believe the government should step in and regulate. If the big oil companies claim it takes so much money to do drilling and refining that is fine. Then you no longer have to compete you just have to provide fair and reasonable prices, like the electric company. Secondly I believe that when you are showing record profits that means you can drop your prices. The American economy was hit very hard by this in my opinion. I know that if the prices were 3 dollars 2 years ago when I was still in college, there is no way I could afford to visit my girlfriend at the time…now wife Jennifer. Fortunately I am no longer in a situation where having to pay $50 to fill up my gas tank is crippling, but that is not to say that I couldn’t better spend that money. I am to the point where I am actually keeping tabs on mileage to work so once I have Kye potty trained, I will possibly ride my bike instead.

The other big political issue this week is the Illegal Alien Protest. Okay take a second…. tell me what is wrong with that. Illegal Aliens HAVE NO RIGHTS, they are not citizens. That being said I did have a revelation this morning as I was running this insanity through my head. They don’t have rights, by definition. However females and blacks did not have rights at one point, and they protested and now they do. That being said, I think this situation is similar but different. For one, when major advocates of the illegal alien cause is claiming that the term ‘illegal alien’ is comparable to calling an african american the ‘n word’, I have to seriously question whether these are the types of people we want to have as citizens. I mean Illegal alien is a description for a person who is illegally residing in a foreign country. THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE DOING. The n word is a poor transliteration of a name of a country in Africa; intented to be derogatory. Illegal Alien applies to ANYONE whether they are Latino, Irish, or Russian. I agree that there needs to be some way for these people to become citizens. Not knowing how the current system works I can’t provide a good solution, but some sort of temporary work visa while paperwork is processed seems reasonable.

Okay well I think I cut this short, but I think I have been on my soap box long enough tonight.

My Birthday

So I am getting old. For those of you who read this and don’t know. My birthday was last wednesday April 26. I am now 23 years old, and feeling great. For my birthday I got…. um… A beautiful wife and a poopy puppy ;-). Actually I have yet to visit my parents so I haven’t received any gifts, but I did get a couple cards. One from my Uncle Kevin (…sorry Kevin) and my Grandparents thanks to both of ya.

Today Jeni’s parents came to visit us and our new home and they took us to eat at the Cheescake Factory. It was good and if you are a fan of chocolate cake, you need to get the Linda’s triple fudge cake. It is quite possibly a piece of heaven that the angels dropped for our pleasure. It is absolutely amazing.

Anyways the real reason why I am posting this is not to let everyone know it is my birthday but because I saw my page rank drop on google, so I felt I should post something so it looks like I update my content.

P.S. for those who care I have started working on an Content Project. Right now it just compiles a list of my favorite rss feeds, but the idea is much broader, we will see if I get to actually finish this project. I can it SocialDraft, we will see where it goes.

Daniel Roop the Dog Whisperer

I Daniel Roop am….the “Dog Whisperer”…i wish.

I choose this as the intro to my post because it pretty much sums up my life over the past couple weeks. My life has been crazy over the past month. So I figured a summary post would be appropriate.

So Jeni and I have bought a house. The closing was on March 15th, I think. But let’s start that monday. On Monday Jeni, my sister Joyce, and I went to see a litter of puppies. Well in that litter we found our little Kye Lynn (for photos see previous post). I wanted to wait until after the closing, but as always I caved to Jeni and her beautiful puppy dog eyes, begging me to get her. So we took Kye home. The first night was not too bad. Our apartment was mostly in boxes, so there wasn’t much she could get into. We tried to put her in the bathroom to sleep, but she was not happy with that, so we let her roam the bedroom. I know everyone will say this is not a good idea, but so far it is working for us. The nice thing about getting Kye this early was because Jeni was on spring break so she was able to stay home with her all week.

So the week went on and wednesday March 15 we went to the title company to do our closing after work. Everythign was going so good with the closing, that I was very oppotomistic about the last day to wrap up just fine. Well turns out I was nieve. After signing just about all the documents we find out that the Sellers had some Canadian Tax problem. I will not go into details, but long story short, they wanted to keep a good chucnk of his earnings for income taxes, and he was not aware. We ended up finishing signing, but we left that night not knowing whehter we owned the house. The next morning, the seller gave me a call letting me know that he got the tax problem taken care of and the title company was finishing the processing. So we officially owned our house.

That weekend I had movers scheduled. Let me tell you what…big shout out to Small Moves. The took a little longer than the quoted me, raking in just under 4 hours, but they made it looks so easy, and it was so well worth the money not to have to move that furniture down those stairs. I did notice that a couple pieces got some knicks, but nothing I am too worried about. I was glad that we moved everything that was important to us ourselves.

So now we have been in our house, and we have taken Kye through a through different training tactics, but over all she is doing very well. My hands and arms probably wouldn’t agree, as the most recent attempt has been to be the pack leader, and she is not exactly accepting when I show my dominance. But she is learning.

My advice in all of this. Don’t get a dog and buy a house in the same week….Bad Daniel!

Kye The Celebrity

I just checked my gmail for the first time in a few days, and I got a message from flickr. Apparently someone liked the picture of kye, and put it up on there blog Jara, pets and friends. Well I am just thrilled my baby, is already a celebrity. I am sure once Jeni sees it she will go crazy. Anyways, seems like a pretty cool dog site, so check it out.

Beach Sunset

IMAG0059, originally uploaded by daniel.roop.

The only reason why I am making this post is to test out the blogging portion of flickr. As I have yet to see the results I can’t really tell you how it turned out. However what I can tell you is that if it turns out bad I will remove it.

Anyways, so a little about this picture. This picture was taken at the Daytona Beach Marina where Jeni’s (my wifes) Dad has his 46′ sail boat. It is a very nice boat, that I have had the pleasure of going on out a couple times now.

I do regret to say however that I am not all that great of a sailor. Mostly because I don’t really know the terms used, for instance I still get port and starboard mixed up. But besides that I think I can follow the Captin’s orders pretty well.

So, because I was told I have to much time on my hands, I will cut this post of…mara….I will see you this weekend, so if you check this, watch out 😉
