God in school

I was just reading this article about how Creationalist are Morons. I like to read these from time to time to make sure I am grounded in my beliefs, and not becoming irrational or crazy. The person’s main point is very valid. Most people who reject evolution and accept creationalism are nut jobs. They ignore hard evidence in front of their face. I don’t think God ever asked us to be idiots and ignore what we see with our eyes. He just asked us to not need to see everything with our eyes to believe it. That being said the reason why I am writing this post is because of the last statement the author made. It seems the point of his argument, and I am sure the point of the debate between evoution and crationalism, is that creationalism should not be taught in public schools. Here is what I have to say to that. I am tired of living my life by the rules of the lowest common denominator. You know what it offends me that you can’t accept the fact that I do believe in God, and I do have faith, and I do believe in evolution, and I do believe God can exist in all of this. But I keep my mouth shut, because I try not to be like you. The lowest common denominator. I accept that people have different perspective and different beliefs. When I am in a group I go along with the majority, unless it is against some core value of mine. For instance if they are going to do some illegal drug. I will not join in the festivities, but I do not stop the masses because of my convictions. Yes I believe it is wrong, but most people want to do it. If I don’t like it I will find somehwere else to hang out or go. Does this mean I do not pull my close friends aside and talk to them about how I feel, no. Does this mean I am ignoring my duty to evangilize and spread the gospel, no I don’t think so.

Now let us apply this logic to public schools. If in a particular community the vast majority of people believe in God, or Jesus, or Allah, or Buddah, I say go for it. Teach it in the school. Who said we have to teach facts. Is art a fact, is physical education a fact. No, but people believe and and want there children to believe in whatever creation story they have faith in. The truth of the matter is that no one really knows how it all began. Maybe one day we will and we will be either right or wrong. But until then, let the believers believe, and go through life that way. Somehwere along the line we have got it in our heads that we have the right to dictact what other people do, because we are some how more important.

I point your attention at this article about breast feeding in public in particular on airplanes. Breast feeding is a very natural thing, that should not be something a mother is ashmed of doing. Now I realize this opens me up to the argument that urinating is also natural and we go into a private room to do that. Yes, I realize I have my boundaries, and would be a little creeped out if someone started urinating around me. But honestly if they were modest about it, as most breast feeding mothers are, I don’t think I would mind if a guy jumped behind a bush to releave himself. Sometimes I wonder if our culture is suffering from 1st world syndrome. What I mean by that is that, we are so far away from the 3rd world problems, we have to create artificial problems to satisfies are appetite.

I apologize if anyone who reads this post is offended, but I had to vent. I just don’t understand why people get so bent out of shape over what other people decide to do with their family, friends, neighbors, and/or community. We have the different levels of government for a reason. At the local level we decide what is right for us, at the city level we decide what is right for us, at the state level we decide what is right. As we go up the chain the rules should be more vague, and overseeing, and at the local level should be more detailed and specifc. Why should someone in Los Angelos, CA tell me what to do here in Orlando, FL. We live in different worlds and should be treated as such.

Good Luck Brendan

First off, sorry for the delay in posting. My (daniel) commitment to posting kind of stopped on both blogs very abbruptly. I am not entirely sure what happend, but I became rather tired, and didn’t feel like I had much to talk about.

I will make an attempt to be better about this, and atleast every couples days post, if not every day.

That being said. Good Luck Brendand. We had our first, and now second lamaze classes, and wow, does Brendan have a lot to do to come out naturally. First he has to wait for this thing to open up. Then he has to slide down into the hip bone, then he has to swivle. Then he goes down a little farter, and swivles again. It is amazing the human race has managed to make it this far. More importantly it is important that this comes natural to babies, cause I have meet a few people that I am not sure they would remember what they had to do if it wasn’t natural.

Our second class was equally as fun cause we got to watch some videos of women giving birth. Television and movies give this act no credit whatsoever. There is alot of different positions, and a lot of moaning and groaning. The same outcomes always seems to happen though, the mother lights up as soon as the baby is in her arms. I am very excited that Jeni will be the woman who experiences this with my baby. Not to mention I am excited about holding him myself.

Anyways, Off to clean the house, we have our first baby shower this weekend, so fun fun.

Smallville Oh My

So for those of you who don’t know I am an avid Smallville fan. And tonight was the season premire. Oh so good. I wouldnt say it is my favorite smallville episode, but it is a good one. I probably wouldn’t even put it up there with best season opener. Some cool elements were intorduced, which should make for alot of good story lines. For startes Jimmy Olsen was introduced at the daily planet, possibly a love interest for Chloe. The coolest element that was introduced was the phantom zone. This had appeared in previous episodes, but not to the extent in this episode.

All things considered I am excited about the direction that Smallville is going. I do realize that it is not following the comic, but at this point most childhood stories aren’t. I mean look at Transformers, there are atleast 3 maybe 4 different storylines, but that doesn’t make Transformers any less cool. I have no problem with writers taking and tweaking old favorites. Another perfect example of this is Batman Begins, or more specifically, The Dark Knight Retruns. The Dark Knight Returns was written years after the original, and tweaked the story line to be a little more dark. I personally like this version a lot more than the Television Version (BAAAMMMM).

That being said, I like Smallville, and I like where it is going.
